Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Komodo education past paper apps (for example, “Grade 12 Mathematics”, and every other grade and subject edition we publish) (the “App”) use, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the App on Android and iOS.
In short: the App has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party advertising. We never ask for your name, email address or phone number. Your settings and downloaded papers stay on your device.
1. Who we are
The App is published by Past Papers (PTY) LTD, trading as Komodo, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (“we”, “us”). For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), we are the responsible party for the information described here.

2. Information that stays on your device
The App stores the following only on your device. It is not sent to us, and we cannot see it:
- Settings – your light/dark theme and haptic-feedback setting.
- Downloaded papers – the question papers and memorandums you choose to download, so you can use them offline.
- Study progress – how long you spend reading papers and how many papers you open, shown on the App's Progress page. You can clear it any time with Account → Reset study progress.
- Saved paper lists – a copy of the most recent list of available papers, so the App opens quickly.
You can delete this at any time (see section 9).
3. Information sent to our server
To show the list of papers and to download a paper, the App connects to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Like any request on the internet, each request includes:
- the grade and subject you selected, and the paper you asked for;
- technical information that every internet connection carries: your device’s IP address, the date and time, and basic device/app information (such as the operating system and HTTP client version).
We use this only to send you the papers you ask for and to keep the service secure and working (for example, to block abuse and fix errors). We do not use it to identify you, to build a profile of you, or for advertising. We do not combine it with any other information.
Our server runs on Cloudflare, which processes these requests on our behalf. Cloudflare may keep short-lived technical logs for security and reliability, under its own privacy policy. We do not store these request details ourselves.
4. Information we do not collect
The App does not:
- require or offer an account, sign-in or registration;
- ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, school, date of birth, photos, contacts or location;
- use an advertising ID, or any analytics, tracking or crash-reporting software (SDK);
- show adverts from any third-party advertising network;
- request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location or files outside the App.
5. Advertising
The App shows adverts for our other app, Komodo – Study & Exam Prep. These adverts are built into the App itself: they collect no information and do not track you. If you tap an advert, Google Play, the Apple App Store or your web browser opens, and from there that company’s privacy policy applies, not this one.
6. Information from app stores
If you have allowed it in your phone’s settings, Google (Google Play) or Apple (App Store) may collect crash reports and usage statistics about apps on your device, under their own privacy policies. They may share these with us only as anonymous, combined statistics (for example, how many devices had the App crash). These do not identify you.

We do not sell, rent or trade information, and we do not use it for automated decisions about you.
8. Sharing
We share information only:
- with our hosting provider (Cloudflare), which processes requests on our behalf and is required to protect them;
- if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of us.
Cross-border processing: Cloudflare runs a global network, so requests may be processed on servers outside South Africa. Cloudflare is bound by data-protection terms that provide protection comparable to POPIA.
9. Keeping and deleting information
- On your device: tap Account → Clear downloads in the App to delete downloaded papers, and Account → Reset study progress to clear your study time. To delete everything the App has saved (settings, downloads and saved lists), clear the App’s storage in your phone’s settings, or uninstall the App.
- On our server: we do not have accounts or user records, so there is nothing linked to you to delete. Technical logs are deleted automatically, as described in section 3.
10. Security
All connections between the App and our server are encrypted with HTTPS. Because we collect so little, very little could ever be exposed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we handle.
11. Children
The App is made for high-school learners (Grades 8 to 12), their parents and teachers, and is not directed at children under 13. There are no accounts, and we never ask learners for personal details such as their name, school, email address or phone number. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us personal information (for example, by emailing us), contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights
Under POPIA (and similar laws elsewhere, such as the GDPR) you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to how we process it;
- complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, or to your local data-protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email booksandtuition@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days. Because we do not keep accounts, we may need a few details (such as the date and approximate time you used the App) to find anything relating to you.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how the App handles information, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above before the change takes effect. If a change is significant (for example, adding analytics or a sign-in), we will also tell you in the App or in the store listing.
